Packing

Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? Forget her! Have you missed me? I'm back! LD in the blog. And so ready to show you some outrageously out of my price range if I intend to stay married items, but they're perfect for you!!

I'm going on a trip. A short one so I'll try and leave the kitchen sink at home. It's tough packing for a family of five. There are so many things I plan on bringing, for, you know, the emergency that is bound to happen if I don't. It's sort of travel insurance. I bring bandages, no one falls and scrapes their knees. Tylenol, no headaches. Robitussin? Well, as most people know, at least those of us who grew up without health insurance, a swig of Robitussin is good for anything that ails you. Maybe two. Two swigs. And if you're really sick, a couple of swigs of Nyquil, well that will knock you out so you don't know what's up from down. Much better, not to mention cheaper than a trip to the doctor.

Back to the trip, it's just for a weekend. I have loads of laundry to do (yes, pun intended, I do say loads of this or loads of that so it would be funny if you knew me in person) and lists to make, and  things to finish up here at home before taking off for some seriously needed holiday. So I was doing what I do when I am crunched for time: I windows shop.   

And shopping for things in the spirit of travel was the order of the day so as to not veer off from task quite too far. And hoping to inspire my reader. the one of you who faithfully reads, thank you, this is dedicated to you, to shop and to travel a bit. And for a much longer stratch and to a much more, er, exotic place than I am headed to in a few days.

Sometimes you feel like one. Sometimes you don't. Those are the days that you've forgotten your crown. McGyver gal LD has a remedy for that.  I wanted something you could make with whatever content were living or not at the deepest recesses of your purse. Nothing pretty would come of it so I changed course.

I was reading and came across (cough, cough, heavily searched for, hired a team of young researchers who spent 2 weeks on this, and devoted a many of my waking hours to this)a tutorial on making crowns. We should all have one. At the very least!

 

So if you're feeling a bit gloomy, need a bit of uplift, try a crown on for size. I am looking forward to the day there are crowns for sale at your local coffee shoppe yet until then you'll have to make it yourself.Thanks to Creative Chaos for the tutorials. It comes in two parts. One and a Two and a .... that's it. Just two. Now go and make yourself pretty.

Aging? Sluggish? Get Healthy.

Pocketbooks empty as the dozens of tubs, tubes, bottles and jars on the counters of your bathroom? Join the club. It seems we all know we're becoming a nation of unhealthy people yet most of us do nothing about it.

LD's not just anyone.

She recommends a book.

A book you say?

Yes.  A book. Read it and then if you'd like you can eat it, for it contains more nutrients, fiber in the form of tree bark I think, than most of the processed foods that many of us are consuming on a weekly, if not a daily basis.

"Death by Supermarket: The Fattening, Dumbing Down, and Poisoning of America " by Nancy Deville, addresses this issue and gives great insight on how making small changes can add up to big returns in your health investment.

Reading this practical advice and, here's the tough part for most, following it, you can begin to fairly quickly see the effects on your life and the lives of those around you.

We all should have started yesterday, make a promise to yourself to start today. And tell me how it goes. Heck, maybe I'll start if it goes well for you.  -LD

How to go green....I want to know

  I've been reading a lot about going green. I actually tried being a 'green mum' when my twins were born. Had no idea about it when my J was born just 8 years ago. Seems I wisened up a bit in just 5 short years, yet not enough! hehehe

I bought a whole stash of cloth diapers. I mean a stash! About $1000 worth, and tried 2 of them. Twice.

I just didn't really understand the intricate details of how to use them, what to buy, how to launder, etc. etc. and I fell prey to the fancy shmancy marketing. All of the websites touting,' These diapers are so easy your husband will love'em!

I rememeber getting my numerous boxes and showing my grandmum after telling her I planned on CD Dahl and Lola and she told me they were like any CD she'd ever seen! hehehe

Oh their bums did look particularly yummy! All full and padded. They looked like if you dropped them on their bums they'd bounce strait up and possibly hit the ceiling like a basketball for certain.

I adored the look. I adored the feel. Yet I felt very lost.

So I joined the many others and filled the landfills with yet thousand and thousand of disposables that will outlive many generations
Probably the only thing that will be around when my childrens' great x5 grandchildren are adults.

I want to get to the heart of what you ladies and any gents, consider being green. What do you do, things great or small, on a daily, weekly, monthly basis, that you feel would be easily incorporated by others, to keep the world a healthier enviornment for our children and future generations in general.

Just one or two things. Even if you haven't yet begun. If it's only something you've read. By sharing it, perhaps, maybe, just maybe, someone else will be inspired to begin this very day and you will, unknowingly have positively affected Mother Earth.

Now how's that for a start to the week!

Britney Britney Britney!

She can't sing. She can't dance. She can't parent. She can't exercise, but boy does she apparently eat!

Sheesh. I wake this morning to I don't know how many news stories, blogs,blurbs and blips of what a trainwreck Britney Spears performace at the MTV awards was. Um, so what?

Things to note:

      

• She's had 2 pregnancies within a very close timeframe
• She's not been taking care of herself
• She's just gone through a divorce
• She's having familial problems
• She's trying to make a comeback of her career after having 2 children
• She's probably feeling self concious - not unlike many of us who have had children feel on a day to day basis let alone on stage in a two piece outfit in front of only goodness knows how many people watching in the audience and then in tvland. Ah yes. Lest we forget. Add to that an ex.

So let's give her a break girls. Let's lift her up a bit. Pull in the claws. Let's show the world that women can and choose to be kind and caring and refute the animalistic ways the media would love us to adopt. They only corrupt our own minds and plant the seed so that next time we're out of the shower and catch a glimpse of out selves we'll know just a bit how Britney may have felt. Hopefully by doing this enough, we'll not only change our outlook on the world but help others to do the same by discontinuing this gossip about misfortunes people have. Lets instead pass along stories of hope and gladness. Let our children and our neighbors hear us spreading warmth upon one anothers' hearts and minds so that they inturn learn to do the same and the chain becomes stronger. So that less of these blog posts become about Britney and and the like and more about improving our lives.

Well I can draw a stick figure. Maybe, if I sent it to you, even a kind of cutey one you'd be proud to hang on your frige and say your 3 year old drew it. Anyway I came upon this website and had to share it with you because, well, pun intended, I was floored! And I know you will be too....
